Augusto Odone, whose fight inspired the movie “Lorenzo’s oil” released in 1993 and nominated twice for an Oscar, dies

Augusto Odone, 80 years old, passed away on October 24, 2013. He was the dad of Lorenzo, who died from adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), and the founder of the Myelin Project. Together with his wife Michaela, he also initiated the development of Lorenzo’s oil and was a major player in the fight against ALD.

His fight was illustrated in the movie “Lorenzo’s oil” from the director George Miller in 1993 where the difficult and exemplary pathway of Lorenzo’s parents is depicted. Suzan Sarandon and Nick Nolte raised awareness on the severity of orphan diseases like leukodystrophies.

When was celebrated the 20th anniversary of the ELA association, he was given an honorary cristal in April 2012 from the hands of Zin├ędine Zidane, ambassador of ELA, and Guy Alba, founding president of the association.
