Zinédine Zidane celebrates Europe with ELA: the match of solidarity

On May the 8th 2010, the Josy-Barthel stadium in Luxembourg welcomed the emblematic ELA ambassador Zinédine Zidane for a international match to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the declaration by the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman which laid the foundations for the European Union.
This was an exceptional event in support of the fight against leukodystrophies.

 

 

 

 

Zinédine Zidane, the Association’s ambassador and Luis Figo (Portugal) led the ELA team made up of Christian Karembeu (France), Jan Koller (Czech Republic), Damiano Tommasi (Italy), Marc Wilmots (Belgium), Sylvain Wiltord (France) among others in a game against the Luxembourg national team.

  • 8,000 spectators, including ELA families as well as members of the public, came to support the cause in a shared afternoon of solidarity and enjoyment.
  • A game between youth players was a curtain raiser for the main match.

 

Luxembourg supports European Solidarity with ELA

Why Luxembourg?

Because the city of Luxembourg is a symbol of the European Union.

Because ELA is a European association leading a project to help the whole of the “Greater Region (Saarland, Lorraine, Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Wallonia)

Because the event was organized in partnership with the European Commission.
This day celebrated the 60th anniversary of the declaration by Robert Schuman, the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman which laid the foundations for the future European Union.
The European Commission wished to mark the occasion by jointly organizing a football match in partnership with ELA as part of the “European Solidarity” initiative.
