  • Randomized : A comparison study in which patients are assigned randomly (by chance) to separate treatment groups to eliminate any possibility of bias (randomized study).
  • Reactive oxygen species : Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly reactive chemical species capable of oxydating proteins, DNA and cell membranes.
  • Recessive : A trait or condition that appears only in individuals who have received two copies of a mutant gene, one copy from each parent.
  • Retrovirus : A class of viruses whose infectious genome is single stranded RNA and which, once in the cell, integrate into their host genome after conversion of the RNA to DNA. (Useful vector for inserting DNA into cells for gene therapy).
